exercise – strength training and water / land based exercises .
These include stretching and flexibility routines that enhance or sustain range of movement .
Supervised or group or individual exercise has been found to provide superior outcomes including reduced pain.
A 10% weight reduction can produce up to a 50% improvement in symptoms.
Mobility aids – walking stick / frame and risk management behavior / training reduce pain and maintain functionality
Simple analgesia and non steroidal anti inflammatories ( NSAIDS) are useful provided that there are no side effects or contraindications to use. Some anti depressant medication has the useful benefit of reducing osteoarthritis pain, and some topical agents like NSAIDS or capsaic cream are useful for some joints
