Ageing skin is thin with thin dermal layers and propensity to easy bruising and skin tears in response to minor trauma. Sun damage aggravates the problem. The skin is further aggravated by the use of soap. All soap is alkaline and dries and cracks the skin.- use a soap substitute body wash (Hamiltons ,Alpha Keri , QV) for a wetting agent and only use soap to remove dirt from skin surfaces. Use a skin moisturiser like sorbolene or water miscible bath oil frequently to increase skin suppleness which will then be less likely to be damaged with trauma .
